A SON OF IMMIGRANTS
Jose Sigala is the proud son of Mexican immigrants. Like many immigrants, his parents came to this country to pursue the American Dream.Although Jose’s parent had no formal education, they worked hard to provide for their family.
Watching his father work as a dishwasher, laborer, farmworker and never complain taught Jose a valuable lesson about sacrifice, including the important values of hard work, respect and caring for others.
Because of the sacrifices his parents made, Jose was the first in his family to graduate from high school and earn a college degree.Jose is a proud product of public schools from head start to college.He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
A COMMITMENT TO SERVICE
For his entire life, Jose, has been a champion of working class families and an ardent advocate for safer neighborhoods, parks/open space, after school programs, small businesses, economic development, clean drinking water, the environment, education and neighborhood empowerment.
Jose has over 20 years of legislative and public policy experience working in the California State Legislature and with local governments where he has worked to improve the quality of life in communities across California.
A PROVEN LEADER
In 2016, Jose was elected to the Tulare City Council to represent the 1st Council District.His grassroots campaign allowed him to build a coalition of community, labor and business leaders to defeat an incumbent and overwhelmingly win his council seat. From 2018 to 2020, Jose served as the Mayor of Tulare and was easily re-elected to the Tulare City Council.
As a Council Member and Mayor, Jose has worked to:
- Increase Public Safety in his district,
- Spur Economic Development across the city, including downtown Tulare,
- Focus attention on important issues affecting the city,
- Increase funding for infrastructure needs and investment in older parts of the city,
- Help shape a city budget that focuses on the needs of Tulare residents, and
- Make an impact in the county as a regional leader.
Jose has proven that he is willing to stand up for the community and take on the tough issues.

Jose will provide the leadership, change and results needed to bring the community together to tackle the challenges our communities face.He will work tirelessly to find solutions, make a difference and improve the quality of life in our communities.
