Icela is a proud single mother of two boys that attend Vintage High School.  Demetrio and JJ are active volunteers at Dia de la Familia – Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation and are currently involved with numerous sports, church activities, volunteering at the local Boys & Girls Club of Napa Valley, and packaging/distributing gifts for the less fortunate of our county.

Icela is the second in her family who has ventured to start her own small business practice – Agricultura Safety Training, May of 2015. Her career commenced in 2005 with a Napa Valley farm labor contractor as a Human Resources/Safety Coordinator. This is where she found her calling for farm safety. Her career includes working for a branch of the California Farm Bureau.  She was exposed to commodities and areas of work never imaginable. Working directly as an health and safety instructor, consultant, mentor to workers and businesses in Oregon, California and Arizona.  She is a dedicated advocate for farm workers health and safety. Her work has led her to many conferences and seminars statewide - Napa Valley Grapegrowers, Napa, Sonoma and Stanislaus County Farm Bureau’s, USDA and AgSafe. Recently she was asked to lecture at the Santa Rosa Junior College for the “Sustainable Viticulture Program” – Safety & Leadership Practices Series. Icela is an active volunteer within her community as an Educational Director for Napa County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Subcommitee/Commitee member and Instructor for the Napa County Farmworker Foundation - Napa Valley Grapegrowers, Napa Valley Latino Heritage Committee Member,  CPR Instructor, CERT Napa Valley, and Holiday Assistance Volunteer for the Salvation army to name a few.

I will work to insure every student has access to quality and equitable education.  I want to improve the support for our teachers and staff, and find ways for parents and our community to participate more in our children’s education, My role is to act strategically to insure fiscal responsibilities by building collaboration with all stakeholders and the Trustees can address concerns and improve them to a higher standard.  Our student’s success is based on a fundamental education system, which I want to be a part of.  As a single parent of two young boys, our children’s education and well-being concern me.​

I'm Napa bred and proud of it! My family moved here in 1972.  I attended Mt.George Elementary school, Silverado Junior High, and Napa High School. I learned valuable lessons from caring teachers about how to be an engaged citizen. I remember what it was like to be a student and a teenager in Napa.

I have 15 years of experience as a volunteer in the NVUSD. Whatever needed doing, I could get it done. Anything from a school fundraiser, lending my voice to disctict level committees or starting a parent club, was with my scope of work. I've learned a few things along the way, and I'm looking forward to using my historical knowledge of schools in Napa combined with the organizational knowledge I'm gaining in grad school to serve the community of Napa.  

Education is about more than the 3 Rs. Children today need to learn 21st century skills these include communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and I'll add...compassion. Our children's workplaces will look very different from the ones we know today. They need to be ready for whatever that becomes.

Allured began his professional career in Southern California within the Fire Service as a Firefighter/Paramedic and eventually Fire Captain. Allured relocated to Napa in 2010 where he began work for the Napa County Public Health Department as Acting EMS Agency Administrator. Currently Allured works for the local government of Contra Costa County as Deputy Director of the local EMS Agency. More importantly, Allured is the Father of a 7^th grader attending Silverado Middle School. Allured’s daughter has been a student within the NVUSD since 1^st grade (Snow Elementary).

The Napa County EMS Agency, in concert with numerous EMS providers (e.g. Napa Fire Department, Angwin Community Ambulance, AMR, Queen of the Valley Medical Center, etc.) have made an incredible difference in our community by bringing awareness to the importance of “Hand’s Only CPR”. This effort has undoubtedly increased our community’s health and empowered every citizen with lifesaving skills. Senate Bill 658 and Assembly Bill 1719 (recently signed by Governor Brown) collectively mandate specific school district requirements including AED instruction/utilization and CPR education as a requirement to graduate high school. Allured stated “I am positioned in a perfect place to not only understand the importance of these bills, but also capable of ensuring compliance. In fact, I’d take these requirements to the next level and assist the school district with staff/student training and obtaining administrative commitment. I'd also like to screen high-school athletes for cardiac abnormalities, which may prevent pre-mature death and/or health complications for students.”

In addition, like so many others, Allured shares the passion to ensure our students are offered healthier foods. “When sugary drinks are more accessible and cheaper than water...something is wrong!”, Allured stated. “Seriously, my daughter won't even eat the pizza! Our household has personally struggled with weight and general health issues due to poor eating habits. It has been a long emotional battle and one we fight daily. I want to ensure our students are educated on the importance of what they consume. This goes beyond mandating the Board offer better choices...there is a huge public health campaign at play. I would be very successful in helping community advocates such as Katie Aaron and Laura Miller carry this extremely important torch”.  

Finally, as alluded to above, the NVUSD is fraught with student disparities. Allured will fight to ensure an equitable learning environment for all students and from ALL demographics, especially among Latino learners. “Students need to feel safe, comfortable and respected. I strongly support pilot programs such as the one at Vintage High School surrounding cultural competency and relevant learning”, Allured said.

I have a son that will enter kindergarten next fall, ensuring a quality education experience for him is a high priority for me.  I have a baccalaureate degree from Sonoma State in Liberal Arts and received my general ed at the Napa JC.  

I am a California girl, born in San Luis Obispo, moved to the small town of Quincy in the Sierra Nevadas, and arrived in the Napa Valley in 2001.   

I worked in the hospitality industry for several years, back and front of the house, and transitioned to the position of Environmental Relations Manager for Auberge du Soleil where I worked for almost 9 years.  I implemented and managed all the sustainability initiatives for the resort including Water and Energy Conservation, Waste Reduction, Employee Wellness, and Community Engagement.  I feel that my experience building these programs from the ground up would benefit our school district.  Through my efforts, Auberge du Soleil was the first hotel in Napa County to receive certification by the Bay Area Green Business program.  I am a certified LEED Green Associate.

Currently, my business partner Stacy Bratlien and I formed a non-profit, YogaNV, Inc., (aka Yoga in the Park.)  I am a certified Yoga Teacher through the Yoga Alliance.  

I manage the social media for the Napa Valley Vine Trail and am in the process of creating the first mural art district  in the city of Napa along the Vine Trail path.   

I volunteer regularly and have served on the Adopt-a-School steering committee for 5 years.  I've am extremely passionate about creating a sustainable local food system and have been very involved with our Local Food Advisory Council since their formation. 

My mother recently retired as a 4th grade teacher from Canyon Oaks Elementary, so I also have first source information of what it is like to be a teacher in the Napa Valley Unified School District.
