As a teacher and a trustee, I have always put students first. Whether it is a decision on how to budget our monies at Cuesta, new facilities, new programs, or issues surrounding student hunger, my votes will always reflect what is best for our students.
Cuesta provides access to affordable education for students just graduating from high school who hope to transfer to a university, for students looking to improve their skills or retrain for a new career, or for students looking to be lifelong learners, Cuesta's Guided Pathways help student to reach their goals in a timely manner. We have moved to mostly distance learning while the community reovers from the pandemic and look forward to returning to in-person learning when it is safe.
Cuesta, like all institutions during the COVID-19 era, is looking at a challenging budget process. With some state monies being deferred, not cut, there will be cash flow decisions to make. Since Cuesta is fortunate to have a high level of local revenue, we have a higher funding floor and will have an easier time of it than many discticts. Over time, we will become less reliant on state funding.
Having served the past four years as the District 5 Trustee, I would like my voice of experience to lead Cuesta through this pandemic era and on to becoming an ever stronger institution of higher learning. Our services help to make a better community for all and I ask you for your vote.
