On the City Council, Mariam will fight for these issues:
Traffic
Traffic is increasing on our city streets and on Highway 29. Mariam will advocate for new solutions to reduce congestion on our roads, build relationships with our partners, and create alternative routes for getting in and out of the City. She will leverage relationships with state officials to help secure regional and state transportation dollars to Napa County to improve our freeways and freeway interchanges, and will also work to increase funding for resurfacing projects on our roads and streets for smoother and safer transportation. Mariam knows that reliable and expedient transportation is crucial to a thriving city.
Economic Development
We’re no longer just the city to the south of Napa. American Canyon has become the second largest city in the county. We should no longer sit idly and just accept whatever business comes to us. Mariam is committed to creating a strong, modern, diversified economy founded on quality, good paying jobs. As such, she will be an active recruiter for the City, raising the bar for the types of businesses that make American Canyon home. Council leadership should be partners, not adversaries, with developers that bring economic prosperity to our community.
As a small business owner, Mariam also understands the important role our local small businesses play in the overall health of our community. Mariam has earned the support of many small business owners because they know she will be a strong voice for local commerce. Mariam will also work with our longtime local business owners, incentivizing business retention and expansion here in American Canyon.
Water
Imagine waking up to take a shower but when you turn the handle nothing comes out. We are one state decision away from this happening. The City has taken a rate study to find water sources but it’s going to take more than a study to end the water crisis in American Canyon. It will take a true leader to pursue and negotiate meaningful solutions to provide residents with water security. Mariam is prepared to do just that and is committed to working with neighboring cities in order to secure our own water supply.
Recreation
American Canyon’s pristine natural beauty deserves to be protected for our future generations. Mariam is dedicated to preserving our parks, open spaces and wetland areas while creating new recreational opportunities for our families, children and seniors. By investing in recreation in American Canyon, we will strengthen our local community and quality of life. It is important that we have public spaces that allow our seniors to unwind, our children to grow and our families to flourish.
Public Safety
As a lifelong resident of American Canyon, Mariam understands how important it is for all of our residents to feel safe. Mariam will work with local law enforcement to ensure our public safety services are at the cutting edge of technological efficiency. She wants to reduce response times for emergency services so that our citizens can rest assured that they are in good hands.
Mariam knows the vital importance of a continuous dialogue between public safety services and the American Canyon community. Mariam is dedicated to creating strong bonds between our neighborhoods and our public safety officials, placing a premium on accountability and transparency. It is vital that we give these groups the proper support so that they can continue to be there in times of need.
