I am a father, husband, the current Mayor of Temecula, and I am running to represent California's 71st Assembly District.
My own story began as the child of a single mother in low-income housing. Watching my mother get her nursing degree and lift our family out of poverty instilled in me a powerful resolve and belief in the promise of America - and the determination to do everything I can to preserve it. Today, I have over two decades of experience in research, higher education, public safety, and public policy. This experience spans the private, public, nonprofit, and academic sectors.
I have served on the Temecula City Council since 2014. I held the office of Mayor in 2018, and was appointed to serve as Mayor again in 2022. I served as the state's first Chairman of the California Bureau of Cannabis Control Advisory Board, and currently represent Temecula in the League of California Cities, the National League of Cities, and the Riverside County Transportation Commission.
I believe that government should encourage growth, not restrain it. I am a conservative, I support funding our police, and I will fight to reduce regulation on small business, and slash middle-class taxes.
My life is an example that with hard work and opportunity, even a kid from public housing can become mayor and live the California dream. I will fight for this dream so it’s in reach for future generations to come.
I reside in Temecula with my wife and daughter. I earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Nevada – Reno, a Ph.D. from UC Davis and San Diego State University, and a law degree from the University of San Diego.
